Wayne and Macomb have outbreaks affecting 14 students at five schools. Figures are from a weekly New School Outbreaks list posted Monday afternoon by the state. It defines an outbreak as two or more Covid-19 cases who may have shared exposure on school grounds and are from different households. Case counts for school-related outbreaks include those associated with before- and after-school programs such as school-sponsored sports. . Andy Woods Elementary holds âParents and P.E. Itâs a chance for parents to participate with their children outdoors on an obstacle course with things like a tire run, see-saw, and a rope climb among many other things. This is the 11th year of the event, which was canceled last year due to COVID-19. Ashley Phelps, the schoolâs physical education teacher said âitâs a fun challenge that is different than any of the normal P.E. days in class.â ....
It usually takes more than half a year for individuals to complete an Appalachian Trail experience. Local families will need just a weekend for the same thanks to State College Area School District librarians. On Saturday and Sunday, the library department will hold “State to State: Hike the Appalachian Trail Across SCASD,” part of this year’s SCASD Reads (#ScasdREADS) campaign, “Read It, Walk It, SCASD Libraries on the Trail.” The campaign this spring has featured the books “Grandma Gatewood’s Walk,” an account of Emma Gatewood’s historic solo AT hike as a 67-year-old grandmother in 1955, for State High students; “The Unlikely Thru-Hiker,” Derick Lugo’s memoir about traversing the trail as a novice African-American hiker from Brooklyn, for middle school students; and “Grandma Gatewood Hikes the Appalachian Trail,” a children’s book read to elementary students on May 3, the date Gatewood began the first of her three AT hikes. ....
Fort Smith Times Record Fort Smith Public Schools held a vaccination clinic at Ben Geren Tornado Shelter on Friday, Jan. 22, and used the opportunity to offer up to 400 doses for district staff which included substitutes, hourly and contract workers. All 400 doses were administered to teachers, educators and other employees. Due to cancellations of initial sign-ups, the clinic was able to accommodate all those who were on the waiting list. The rest of Fort Smith Public School employees who want to receive the vaccine will be accommodated at a later clinic yet to be scheduled. According to the Arkansas Department of Health, teachers are eligible for the vaccine during the 1-B phase of distribution which began on Jan. 18. ....
