Western Australian achievements in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) will be in the spotlight at the upcoming 2021 Premier’s Science Awards, with applications now open.
Established in 2002, the awards recognise outstanding achievements in scientific research, study and engagement by Western Australians.
Award categories in 2021 include Scientist of the Year, Woodside Early Career Scientist of the Year, ExxonMobil Student Scientist of the Year, Chevron Science Engagement Initiative of the Year and Shell Aboriginal STEM Student of the Year. ....

Australia s Woodside has started construction of the 3.2-km Pluto-Karratha Gas Plant (KGP) interconnector, it said on March 31.
The interconnector will link the Pluto LNG plant in Western Australia and KGP and, according to Woodside, will increase flexibility for processing gas from various fields and third-party resource owners.
The scope also includes new gas conditioning facilities at Pluto LNG and common piping infrastructure at KGP that will allow gas to be received from both the new interconnector pipeline and existing Burrup extension pipeline, project manager Michael Gibson said. ....

Russia s Lukoil has withdrawn its offer to buy Sydney-listed Far, a partner in the Rufisque, Sangomar and Sangomar Deep (RSSD) oil and gas project offshore Senegal, Far said on April 1.
Lukoil made its non-binding bid for Far, valued at $167mn, after a failed attempt to buy the Australian company s 14% stake in RSSD. Far announced earlier this year it had signed a sales and purchase agreement to transfer its interest in RSSD to Australia s Woodside, already an investor in the Senegalese project. ....

Woodside and its Pluto LNG joint venture partners have delivered their first cargo of carbon offset condensate to Trafigura, Woodside said on March 15. The cargo was loaded at Pluto LNG in Western Australia.
The carbon dioxide equivalent emissions associated with extraction, storage and shipping of the 650,000-barrel cargo will be offset using efficiency measures, which reduce emissions, and the surrender of high-quality carbon offsets, the company stated. Woodside Burrup Pty Ltd (Woodside) and its Pluto LNG joint venture participants Kansai Electric Power Australia Pty Ltd (Kansai Electric) and Tokyo Gas Pluto Pty Ltd (Tokyo Gas) have delivered their first cargo of carbon offset condensate to independent commodity trading company Trafigura Pte Ltd (Trafigura). The cargo was loaded at Pluto LNG in Western Australia.
