HHS provides $86.6 million to businesses in Spartanburg under CARES ACT


Through the fourth quarter of 2020, businesses in Spartanburg received $86.6 million in health-related relief from the CARES act issued by the Department of Health and Human Services.
According to numbers reported through the fourth quarter of 2020, businesses in South Carolina received $1.2 billion in health-related relief from the CARES act issued by the Department of Health and Human Services. The largest recipient of funding in the state was Prisma Health-Upstate with a total of $131 million. The average loan size in the city was $524,944 while the state s average loan amount was $258,718.
Of the money distributed, $30 billion went out automatically to health providers based on previous year medicare payments. If the money wasn t returned within 90 days the provider is then automatically entered into the repayment terms that are issued by HHS. COVID-19 vaccinations given to Spartanburg nursing home residents


Joann Burriss sits inside her quiet room when two pharmacists suddenly enter.
They wear gloves, a protective vest, a face shield and masks. They push a cart carrying syringes and vials of a clear liquid. 
The 87-year-old knows why they’re here.
“I ve read a lot about this, Burriss says, as the pharmacist from Walgreens prepares her upper arm for an injection. This is for that bug that’s been going around,”
Burriss was among the first residents at Summit Hills senior living community in Spartanburg to receive the COVID-19 vaccination Wednesday morning. Other residents, and employees, will get a dose of the shot on Monday.  ....
