Cumbria prepares for sharp rise in visitors as Covid restrictions begin to ease


‘We are better prepared this time’ that was the message from Cumbria Police, Cumbria Tourism, and the Lake District National Park Authority as the ‘stay-at-home’ rule end date on March 29 looms closer and the memories of last summer linger.
It is expected that the Lake District will see an influx of visitors, leading to concerns that coronavirus cases could soar in South Lakeland.
This week, while giving evidence to the Science and Technology Committee, England’s Chief Medical Officer Chris Whitty warned that cases could ‘surge’ as restrictions ease.
Professor Whitty said: “As things are opening up, what all the modelling suggests is at some point we will get a surge in virus.” ....
