Annoyance at lack of funding for Clare council housing upgrades A SHANNON-based councillor has described himself as “very annoyed” at the lack of adequate funding to upgrade local authority housing stock. Councillor Gerry Flynn told the July meeting of the county council it is imperative that the authority make financial provision for the upgrades required to bring its vacant stock to a standard for rental, in order to assist applicants on the social housing list. The Independent councillor also requested that funding be provided for maintenance for existing tenancies in need of works. Acknowledging the fact that, at the same meeting, he had been one of only two councillors to vote against leaving the Local Property Tax in Clare at 15% above the standard rate, Councillor Flynn insisted his stance was “in no way contradictory”. ....
Portlaoise councillors disagree over condition of council housing estate Lakeglen estate in Portlaoise ); ); The condition of roads, paths and walls in a Portlaoise council estate has been criticised by one local councillor, but denied by another. Cllr Noel Tuohy says that problems in Lakeglen, on the N80 Mountmellick road are many. “It is an old estate. It is looking well, a lot of work is being done, but there is water coming up through gullies. They have problems with paths broken in parts. A wall is moving away from its foundations. “This is not massive but is very important work. This is one of the older estates, adjacent to O’Moore Place. I hope some money can be given to solve the problems, they are not insurmountable,” Cllr Tuohy said. ....

Grants are being awarded to these organizations for programming that addresses substance use disorders with at least one of three complicating factors: COVID-19, social determinants of health, and/or co-occurring mental health conditions. ....
Naas mum-of-three complains of mould at emergency accommodation Health and safety ); ); Kildare County Council has responded to complaints about mould in an apartment which is offered as emergency accommodation. A mother of three young children who contacted the Leader said that her family has been in emergency accommodation in the Riverview apartment complex on the Newbridge Road in Naas since July. Condition of one apartment She has complained to us about the condition of the apartment she has been allocated and has sent photographs appearing to show mould present around skirting boards as well as window and door frames. ....
