New affordable housing project to be part of SoHo 'renaissance'

LONDON, ONT.
A massive new development that will help fill the city’s housing affordability gap is taking shape in London’s SoHo neigbourhood.
London city council has approved the sale of the remaining former Victoria Hospital Lands on South Street to a newly formed group of non-profit housing developers called Vision SoHo Alliance.
Just over 2.5 hectares on the north side of South Street will be transformed into a mixed-use housing complex. More than 600 units in total will include 300 at affordable rates, the remainder at market rates.

Times change, non-profit housing builder says, as it backs end to city agency

A veteran non-profit housing builder in London says the arms-length agency created by city hall to boost affordable units isn’t needed anymore.
City council scrapped the Housing Development Corp. (HDC) with a 13-1 vote on Tuesday, opting instead to bring that work back in-house, a move that was endorsed by Homes Unlimited in a letter to politicians.

Dissolving the HDC is an about-face from the move in 2015 to create the agency, when staff and politicians said it would make London more efficient and nimble on the affordable housing file. But Homes Unlimited said the landscape has since changed. ....
