SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah State Legislature will take up a ban on discussion of critical race theory and declaring the state a Second Amendment Sanctuary.
But they won t be bills. Instead, Republican lawmakers on Capitol Hill will push them in the special session as resolutions, which are statements by the legislature that are not legally binding.
The move came a day after Governor Spencer Cox declined to include them as bills (which have the force of law) in Wednesday s special session. ....

Dick Pryor: There s just a little over a month left in the legislative session. How would you rate it so far?
State Rep. Cyndi Munson: (laughs) Good to know that there s only a month left. It feels like it s been a lot longer than that - this legislative session. I have mixed feelings about this session. We kind of talk about how every session feels like the most stressful and the worst that we ve ever experienced. And I ll say what this session I think what s been most unique is trying to govern and do our business while still living through a pandemic. And then ....

The Maryland General Assembly operated like never before in 2021 but still passed significant measures that included a multi-billion dollar COVID-19 relief plan, historic police reform, legalized sports wagering, and a wave of overrides of the governor s vetoes.
Only elected officials, portions of their staff, and a limited number of media could be present at the State House this session to help minimize any potential spread of COVID-19.
With none of the general public or usual lobbyists present, lawmakers worked to make up for time lost in the 2020 session, which ended early during the start of the pandemic. ....

The Maryland General Assembly operated like never before in 2021 but still passed significant measures that included a multi-billion dollar COVID-19 relief plan, historic police reform, legalized sports wagering, and a wave of overrides of the governor’s vetoes.
Only elected officials, portions of their staff, and a limited number of media could be present at the State House this session to help minimize any potential spread of COVID-19.
With none of the general public or usual lobbyists present, lawmakers worked to make up for time lost in the 2020 session, which ended early during the start of the pandemic.
“We’re sending a strong and clear message: While we may have disagreements on certain issues, we can work together in a bipartisan way for the people of Maryland,” Gov. Larry Hogan, R, said during a bill signing Tuesday with House Speaker Adrienne Jones, D-Baltimore County, and Senate President Bill Ferguson, D-Baltimore. ....
