Kolkata: Within hours of assuming office, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday initiated a major reshuffle in the police hierarchy, transferring 29 top-level police officers, mostly those who were shifted by the Election Commission prior to the polls.
Among the top-level officers who have been brought back to their former positions are DG Virendra, ADG (Law and Order) Jawed Shamim and DG Security Vivek Sahay, an order issued this evening said. ....

Kolkata, May 5 : On the first day in office in her third term as the Chief Minister of West Bengal, Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday effected a major reshuffle in the police hierarchy, transferring 29 top officers, mostly bringing back policemen to their former positions who were transferred by the Election Commission during the recently concluded Assembly polls.
Among the top-level officers who have been brought back to their former positions are Director General Virendra, ADG (Law and Order) Jawed Shamim, and DG (Security) Vivek Sahay. ....

New Delhi: The West Bengal government on Wednesday (May 5) suspended Coochbehar Superintendent of Police Debashis Dhar in connection with the Sitalkuchi firing incident by alleged CISF personnel in which at least four people lost their lives. The government-appointed K Kannan as the new SP of Coochbehar. According to reports, the Bengal government will investigate the Sitalkuchi firing by CISF jawans in which four people, all Trinamool Congress workers, were killed at a booth during the fourth phase of polling in Coochbehar district.
The development came hours after TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee was administered the oath for the third time as the Chief Minister of West Bengal. Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday started the process of reinstating officials, who had been transferred by the Election Commission of India after the Assembly polls had been declared on February 26, in the state civil and police administration.
On her first day as the chief minister for the third consecutive term, Mamata reinstated Virendra as the DGP of the state. Virendra had been removed by the EC and P. Nirajnayan was appointed as the DGP by it to conduct the polls. ....

KOLKATA: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday effected a major reshuffle of the top brass of the state police, reinstating officers who were transferred after the Election Commission took over.
Banerjee reinstated DGP Virendra and ADG (law & order) Jawed Shamim in two key changes, the announcements made in her first press conference after being sworn in as CM for the third straight term.
The incumbents, DGP P Nirajnayan and ADG (law and order) Jag Mohan, were posted as DG (Fire Service) and director civil defence, respectively. Both Virendra and Shamim had been transferred by the poll panel. Virendra was posted as advisor West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited, while Shamim was posted as DG (Fire). ....
