RUSSELL, Ky. (AP) â Good things are happening in Russell. Just ask Mayor Ron Simpson. He and the group Revitalize Russell are working to make the city more attractive, hoping a sort of makeover will help bring businesses â and tourists â to the downtown area. One project completed: A âWelcome to Russellâ mural by Ashland artist Elias Reynolds. âTracy Frye commissioned me to make a painting of Russell encompassing various landmarks for her law office in Russell,â Reynolds said. âThe Russell City Council liked it so much they decided they wanted a mural of it. I added the âWelcome to Russellâ for the mural.â ....

The Ashland Alliance named The Edge Business Center its April Business of the Month. Located in Russell, The Edge is a two-floor building situated on âthe edgeâ of Boyd and Greenup counties, serving both countiesâ residents. The former Ashland Oil building features more than 100,000 square feet. The Patterson family purchased it in 2018 to repurpose and redesign it to attract businesses. An open house is scheduled for April 28 at The Edge. The new small business block will be unveiled then. The block is home to 21 planned office spaces ranging in size from 200-1,100 square feet, according to Ashland Alliance. âWe are a family of businesspeople who are always on the lookout for potential business opportunities,â said Kristie Patterson, The Edgeâs executive director. âIt was as though the vacant building sitting on top of the hill above Hobby Lobby was calling our name.â ....
