There might be dozens of undiscovered subatomic particles in the universe, and new physics might be lurking around the corner, if the results of a recent scientific experiment, conducted at Fermilab in the US, are correct. An international team of 200 particle physicists spread among seven countries made the announcement earlier this month, immediately setting the world of physics abuzz.
Graziano Venanzoni, one of the leaders of the experiment and a physicist at the Italian National Institute for Nuclear Physics, underscored the importance of the experiment in a suitably grandiose manner, calling the day of the announcement, “An extraordinary day, long awaited not only by us but ....

The world of physics was abuzz this week with the announcement that a subatomic particle called a muon, observed anew in an incredibly sophisticated experiment, did not behave as expected.

The strange behaviour of a fundamental particle called a muon may hint at the existence of exotic particles and forces beyond the standard model of physics. We have had signs of this anomaly before, but a new set of measurements has increased the likelihood that it is real.
Muons are electrically charged particles, so when they are placed in a magnetic field, they start to spin. Physicists can measure the frequency of that spin because of a phenomenon called precession, in which the spin axis of the particle wobbles slightly, allowing them to make what they call a wiggle plot. ....

William B. Morse, who came to the community in 1909, also served as mayor, chamber president, judge and legislator
William Britton Morse was born March 23, 1886, in Burlington, Kansas. He graduated from Kansas State Normal School and taught a year in Kansas before moving to Portland in 1906. He attended business college in Portland.
He came to Prineville in 1909 and worked as a bookkeeper for the Collins-Elkins Mercantile store. He also farmed along McKay Creek from 1913 to 1926. He purchased the Prineville Warehouse company in 1926. He began to expand his business presence by establishing the Morse Lumber company and the Redmond Potato Company. ....
