Even as the U.S. economy starts to trend upwards, the promise of Universal Basic Income (UBI) isn t being ignored. Cities across the country keep announcing new free cash programs for residents as recently as last week. This page, which we will update regularly, will help you keep track. 
The idea gained relevance in 2020, as millions of households coped with the financial impact of the pandemic. Many cities are testing out guaranteed income programs — similar in principle to UBI, but offered to a select portion of a city s population instead of all residents.  ....

Listen To The Pittsburgh Mayoral Debate By WESA & The Pittsburgh Black Media Federation Tonight At 7 p.m.


WESA, Pittsburgh’s NPR news station, and the Pittsburgh Black Media Federation will host a debate among four Democratic candidates for the office of Mayor of Pittsburgh Tuesday, April 13 at 7 p.m. airing on 90.5FM and streaming at wesa.fm.
Confirmed candidates include State Representative Ed Gainey, retired police officer Tony Moreno, incumbent Mayor William Peduto and south Oakland resident Mike Thompson. The debate will be moderated by Pittsburgh Black Media Federation board member and WESA reporter Ariel Worthy and WESA government and accountability editor Chris Potter.  
The debate will take place virtually and the format will include questions on crucial issues such as the city’s livability and affordability, policing, tax and fiscal concerns, and economic, racial, and social equity.
