Rare treasures on display from Museum's largest acquisition


Trevor Kennedy Collection: Highlights exhibition features extraordinary historic objects
Over 500 Australian historical artefacts and decorative arts objects drawn from the internationally recognised Trevor Kennedy Collection are now on display at the National Museum of Australia in Canberra.
This is the first time Australiana objects from the Trevor Kennedy Collection have been available for public viewing.
To acknowledge the Museum’s largest and most significant acquisition, the Museum’s Forecourt bush garden has been named in recognition of Christina and Trevor Kennedy.
The exhibition showcases 573 objects from some 5,000 acquired by the Museum in 2020 through its largest acquisition, a combination of a purchase by the Museum of over $8 million and a donation by Mr Kennedy valued at about $7 million. ....

AUBURN – Clarissa “Peg” Damon, 94, passed away on March 5, 2021 at Clover Healthcare in Auburn with her son, Bruce, by her side.
Clarissa May Titus Damon was born on May 5, 1926 in Auburn, daughter of Rethwell Springer and Doris Mae Leslie Titus. She grew up and attended elementary school in North Auburn. She graduated from Edward Little High School in 1944 where her yearbook described her as a person who “hails everyone with a smile that makes her eyes twinkle”. That twinkle and smile defined her life. ....

Times Past: Stirlings paved the way for the printing industry


IF any one family can be cited as exemplars of the entrepreneurial spirit of Glasgow which drove the expansion of the city in the latter half of the 18th century, it was the Stirlings who effectively began the printing and dyeing industries that were a huge contributor to the development of Glasgow and other places.  
There had been Stirlings in and around Glasgow for centuries, but it was William Stirling (1717-1777) who made them rich and famous. Already involved in the clothing trade, records show that Stirling was made Burgess and Guild Brother of the Burgh of Glasgow in February 1745.  ....

Old Apostolic Lutheran Church moving from Newark to Elkton


ELKTON — Just days before passing away, well known Cecil County businessman David Williams sold his Cherry Hill property known by the family as “The Hill” to Old Apostolic Lutheran Church in Newark.
William Denny, a member of the church board of directors, said Williams welcomed the idea that his 23 acres would become a place of worship and eternal rest.
“Our cemetery will be adjacent to the cemetery at Cherry Hill United Methodist Church,” Denny said. “There will be no school, no daycare center or sports. It will be very low impact on the community.”
The current church has a capacity of 588 people. Denny said the congregation has outgrown the building at 2038 Pleasant Valley Road. ....
