Former Logan County Clerk Sally Turner, R-Beason, has been selected by Republican Party leaders to replace former state Sen. Bill Brady, R-Bloomington, in the 44th Senate District.
The process for replacing former Sen. Bill Brady, R-Bloomington, became more serious over the weekend as five Republican Party chairs met to discuss options.
Nine people have expressed interest to replace the former Senate minority leader who left his 44th legislative district seat on Dec. 31 after serving nearly six terms. The list includes four candidates from Logan County: former county clerk Sally Turner, Lincoln city administrator Elizabeth Kavelman, Lincoln Ward 3 Alderman Kevin Bateman and Illinois executive director of the USDA Farm Services Agency William Graff; four from Tazewell County: county board chair David Zimmerman, county board District 3 Representative Russ Crawford, Logan Warrick, and Tim Taylor; and from McLean County: Kyle Ham, a former chief executive officer of the Bloomington-Normal Economic Development Council.
Fairfield Memorial Hospital Chief of Staff Dr. Wesley Thompson has accepted a position with the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Idaho and will leave Wayne County this March after 17 years of service in the area. FMH CEO Dr. Katherine Bunting-Williams said Dr. Thompson will be missed, but veterans deserve top-quality care.

32-year-old Anthony N. Alexander was arrested early Saturday morning on charges of aggravated arson, criminal damage to government-supported property, and disorderly conduct. Police reportedly found a door on fire at the Fairfield High Rise, and, after an investigation, placed Alexander under arrest. He was held in jail, pending the setting of bond.
USDA crop acreage report deadlines

The following acreage reporting dates are applicable in Illinois: Dec. 15 – Fall-Seeded Small Grains, Canola. and Jan. 15 – Apples, Asparagus, Blueberries, Caneberries, Cherries, Grapes, Nectarines, Peaches, Pears, Plums, Strawberries To complete your acreage report, call the local FSA office (283-2311) to schedule an appointment. The FSA can work with producers to file timely acreage reports by phone, email, online tools and virtual meetings.
