Hunting for long-lost treasure were nearly twenty hikers gallivanting around Sugar Island, Potsdam, July 15, including Lisa Hanns and Cyrus Abar. Families with children of all ages were able to hear legends of the Pirates of the Racquette River while hiking along the three-mile Red Sandstone Trail between Potsdam and Hannawa Falls. The hike was a joint event organized by Blair Madore, of the Adirondack Mountain Club, and William Eckert, of Potsdam Public Library, with support from special guest pirate Margaret Madore. POTSDAM An opening date for the Potsdam Public Library is still to be determined as the inside renovation project continues, but the library is hoping to be open in June, said a post on the library’s website recently.
William Eckert, the library’s adult program coordinator who was hired last summer, writes that the library is into phase two of its $1.2 million interior renovation project.
“While there has been no hard-and-fast reopening date, due to the pandemic altering the availability of materials and workflow, as well as natural work delays, we are hoping for a June reopening date. As we get closer to that date, we will be working together to figure out what kind of programs we can immediately welcome you into and are excited at the prospect of being able to be reopen at a time when we will be able to have our community come inside as opposed to us having to do curbside ser

North Country This Week
POTSDAM – Renovation work at the Potsdam Public Library continues and the $1.2 million project is not expected to reach a point where the library will reopen to the public until sometime later this spring.
A specific reopening date has yet to be nailed down, however.
Potsdam Library Director Annie Davey told North Country This Week that Phases 1 and 2 of the project are slated to be finished sometime this spring. Phase 3 of the extensive interior renovation at the library will take place sometime thereafter.
