MACON, Ga. Thursday night, the family and colleagues of Christopher Knight gathered in front of the Bibb Sheriff s Office for a candlelight vigil to remember the fallen deputy.
Willie Knight, Christopher s uncle, spoke on behalf of the family and thanked everyone for the support. Thank you so much for the love that you ve shown my sister and my family. It goes without words the gratitude and the love that you ve shown us through this hard time, he said.

LISBON A March 15 preliminary hearing was set in county Municipal Court for Jordan L. Gainer, 32, Smithfield Street, East Liverpool, charged with failure to comply with an order or signal of a police officer, a third-degree felony, as well as misdemeanor citations of permitting an operator to drive without a license, failure to display a valid sticker, failure to control, seat belt violation, two counts of reckless operation, two counts of improper passing, speeding, two counts of traffic control devices and a turn signal violation. On Oct. 17, Gainer allegedly fled from Wellsville police in a red Ford Escape, passing vehicles on a two-lane road, before continuing up on state Route 7, where the vehicle was found flipped on its roof and up against a telephone pole. Gainer reportedly was found lying on the sidewalk next to the vehicle.

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WLBT) - The state is reporting two inmate deaths at the East Mississippi Correctional Facility in Lauderdale County.
Willie Knight died on December 20, at 5:45 p.m., at a local hospital, according to a report.
The 67-year-old was serving a life sentence for homicide in Jefferson Davis County. He was sentenced on September 25, 1992.
Allen Bullock, 61, was serving a 20-year sentence for child pornography in Adams County, according to the release. He was sentenced on January 16, 2009.
Mississippi: 1 inmate dies in 1 prison, 2 die in another

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) Prison officials on Tuesday announced the deaths of three Mississippi inmates.
The state Department of Corrections said Terry Slater, 61, died Tuesday at Central Mississippi Correctional Facility. Slater was convicted of unlawful touching of a child and kidnapping a minor in Harrison County. He was sentenced to serve 12 years on May 1, 2014. An autopsy will be done.
Management & Training Corporation, a private company that runs East Mississippi Correctional Facility, said Willie Knight, 67, died Sunday at a hospital. He was serving a life sentence for murder in Jefferson Davis County. He was sentenced Sept. 25, 1992.
