When Antoine Vella was only 11 years old, he tagged along with his father, who owned a hairdressing salon in Birkirkara, toing and froing for five years during his school lunch break to gain experience in order to be able to follow in his father’s footsteps. At the tender age of 10, he joined the Society of Christine Doctrine (MUSEUM), which is close to his heart and in which he is still very much involved today. “Both my passion for the art of hairdressing, as well as my strong commitment to the Society, have filled my life with a sense of achievement,” says Vella, 72, who has been Villa Messina’s official hairdresser for the past 24 years. ....
Private homes for the elderly have expressed concern about the speed of the COVID-19 vaccine rollout among their residents. One organisation that operates nine homes for the elderly said the process is not as fast as it had expected while another said it had still not received any information on dates. Last week the government announced it had started the inoculation of the 4,400 people living in 37 facilities across the island. However, AX Care, which manages the Simblija home in Naxxar, said it has not recieved any concrete information on the vaccine, despite the government announcement last week. Obituaries FARRUGIA. On December 17, at Mater Dei Hospital, GRACE, residing at Villa Messina, Rabat, aged 82, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her beloved husband Carmel, her children Paul and his wife Janet, Joseph and his wife Christine, Charles and his wife Marlene, Sonya and her husband Ivan Chircop, Patrick and his wife Dorianne, her grandchildren Abigail, Julian, Timothy, Justin, Gary, Matthew, Mariah, Philippa and Kevin, her brothers and sisters, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today, Saturday, December 19, at 1pm for St Nicholas parish church, Siġġiewi, where Mass præsente cadavere will be said at 1.30pm, followed by interment in the family grave at Siġġiewi cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Id-Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be appreciated. May the Lord grant her eternal rest.
