Opportunities for artists in the west central Minnesota area Written By: Donna Middleton | × Arts Council WILLMAR “Chaos” is the theme of the Willmar Area Arts Council invitational art exhibit that will coincide with the production of “A Comedy of Tenors” at The Barn Theatre. Artwork must be turned in by noon Aug. 9. All mediums are accepted and you can submit up to three pieces. All 2D artwork must be ready to hang with a wire. There is a $5 entry fee per piece, $7 for non-members. The exhibit will be up Aug. 11-19. The public can vote for their favorite entry. The winning artist receives $50. Philip Merlin Scheevel Philip Merlin Scheevel, 77, of Spicer, MN passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 23, 2021, after a short battle with lung cancer. Phil was a loving family man who was active in his community and church. He was a passionate and gifted wood carver who served as president and long-time member of the West Central MN Wood Carvers Club, as well as the Willmar Area Arts Council. Phil loved sports and dedicated many years to running the score clock at NL-S basketball games. He was involved with the Green Lake Road Race and was race director for 9 years. Phil was known for his love of family, kindness and giving spirit, endless knowledge, never passing up a chance for a good conversation and always sharing his homemade candies and newest wood carvings. Phil is survived by his loving wife, Rochelle “Rocky” Scheevel, daughters, Lynn (Steve) Rothmeier and Karianne (Berge) Scheevel and granddaughter, Ellery Rothmeier. Also survived by siblings, Kay (Ed) ....
