Maharashtra reported death of 261 birds on Thursday, of these 249 were from Amravati and 12 from Nandurbar district. The mortality in other birds like herons, sparrows, parrots and crows was not reported.
As per the standard procedure, samples are being sent to Bhopal’s National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases and Pune’s Animal Disease Investigation Section for testing to contain the bird flu spread. ....

Maharashtra’s Amravati district reported 6,900 new bird flu cases on Wednesday, officials said. This was followed by Nandurbar district (19 cases) and Jalna district (12 cases).
Samples are being sent to Bhopal’s National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases and Pune’s Animal Disease Investigation Section for testing to contain the bird flu spread.
“According to the provisions of the Prevention and Control of Infectious and Contagious Diseases in Animals Act, 2009, we are declaring ‘infected zones’ wherever there is a positive case in poultry birds and ducks. All the poultry birds and eggs within a radius of 1 km from a poultry farm have been scientifically destroyed,” the state government said. ....

The Maharashtra government on Thursday informed that a total of 331 poultry birds were found dead in the state during the day. Out of this, 47 deaths were reported in Latur, 25 in Gondia, 86 in Chandrapur, 110 in Nagpur, 10 in Yavatmal, 50 in Satara and three in Raigad.
Apart from poultry birds, mortality was observed in other 44 birds like herons, sparrows, parrots etc. 34 such deaths were reported in Sangli and one each in Amravati and Solapur. Eight peacocks died in Wardha and a total of seven crows were found dead one each in Nashik, Yavatmal and Nandurbar, and two each in Pune and Jalgaon district. ....
