Driver of tanker that crashed near Lyons cited


The spill caused significant fish kill , according to the Environmental Protection Agency.

LYONS, Colo The driver of a tanker truck that crashed northwest of Lyons last month, causing fuel to spill into the North St. Vrain Creek, has been cited for careless driving. 
According to the Colorado State Patrol (CSP), 26-year-old Evans resident David Cunningham was driving the truck that rolled over on US 36 at Apple Valley Road on April 27. 
CSP said the investigation is complete and no other charges are expected.

LYONS, Colo. (CBS4) – Colorado Parks and Wildlife has a better idea of how many fish died after a tanker truck flipped over and spilled gas into the North St. Vrain Creek in Lyons last week.

Good Samaritans tried to rescue fish after the crash, which happened last Tuesday. CPW believes that hundreds of fish died after thousands of gallons of fuel spilled on Highway 36 near the intersection with Apple Valley Road.

Initial water sample analysis done by the Environmental Protection Agency on North St. Vrain Creek show the gasoline that spilled into the creek after a fuel truck crashed earlier this week has dissipated, but Colorado Parks and Wildlife says there was a “significant” fish kill event caused by the spill. ....
