“It was just kinda reading the defense and see what they were giving us,” said DeMaio. “They kinda played off some of the picks earlier in the game, so we thought that we could get that. Just something we’re always practicing. We have trust in each other and all the guys on the team.”
Maryland coach John Tillman did not use his timeout, also stressing the trust between the two lefties.
“Those guys have great chemistry. They’ve played together forever. When it comes to making decisions, I’ll take those two guys any days of the week,” said Tillman, who said that with a long break before the overtime, they talked about wanting to probe the Notre Dame defense a little bit before using a timeout, unless they got into trouble. “I’m sure if it wasn’t there, Logan would have waited. If Anthony didn’t have the shot, he would have circled back and we would have gone into something else.”

Remember when the 2019 NCAA quarterfinals were supposed to be the best table-setter ever for championship weekend?
Well, 2021 made a run at that honor over the last two days.
Both sets of quarterfinals had three overtime games, though the relative dud of 2019 (Penn State’s 21-14 defeat of Loyola) was more compelling than this year’s dud (Virginia’s 14-3 drubbing of Georgetown). There wasn’t a call nearly as controversial as the 2019 Virginia-Maryland quarterfinal had, nor was there a cap to an epic trilogy like Yale-Penn that year.

Sixth-seeded Notre Dame took its first punch of the postseason, surviving a spirited second-half rally by CAA champion Drexel to win 10-8 in an NCAA tournament first-round game Saturday at Denver’s Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium.
The Fighting Irish (8-3) are hosting the quarterfinals next Sunday in South Bend, Ind., and advanced past the first round for the 10th time in the last 11 seasons. They’ll play the winner of Sunday’s game between Vermont and third-seeded Maryland.
