Emotional Rollercoaster has Bucknell Showing its Resilience

Fri Mar 12 2021 | Patrick Stevens | College PHOTO BY JOHN STROHSACKER Frank Fedorjaka learned earlier than just about anyone in college lacrosse what playing in a pandemic would be like. The Bucknell coach saw his team’s game scheduled for March 7, 2020, at Boston University pushed back a day multiple times as the Terriers dealt with multiple illnesses within their program, a flurry of primitive COVID-19 tests that took two or three days to produce results and increasing demands from cautious university administrators. The game was never played, and the season was canceled within a week. So when Bucknell had games against four different opponents over three weekends canceled early this season, Fedorjaka had a familiar feeling.

Quint s Top 20: A Year For Mid-Majors To Break Through

Monday March 8th, 2021 8:45am (Inside Lacrosse Photo: James Beaver) It was a weekend of little change. Loyola, Ohio State and Richmond were the only Top 20 teams to meet defeat. We have a lot to look forward to this week, and many of the best games are on television. Wednesday High Point is at Duke. Thursday Night Lacrosse debuts on the ACC Network with Virginia and North Carolina. On Saturday, Hopkins hosts Penn State, then Rutgers and Maryland play for first place in the Big Ten. Sunday, fans will be treated to Ohio State and Michigan. Why are there so many football score blowouts this season? I think there are less ‘middle tier’ teams with the Ivy sitting out 2021 and the power programs extended their lead by securing high-profile transfers, furthering the gap.  This year offers an opportunity for mid-major programs to attract more attention, to put themselves in the Top 20 and push toward the Tournament.

Quint s Top 20: On We March

Welcome to March. There’s no turning back now. Blowout Saturday featured a ton of one-sided affairs. We witnessed some Week Two results that didn’t correlate to Week One performance. Teams improve a great deal after their initial outing. March is about improvement. Strive to get better this week as a team, as a unit and as an individual. Same-day bus rides and empty bleachers conspire to snuff your spark. The fire burns from within, take a moment to connect with your why.  Early in the year, this poll is more art than science or math. I try not to look at the other polls. Instead, preferring to watch games and talk to coaches. Film don’t lie. Groupthink is never profitable.

ACC: Five Storylines to Watch, All-Conference, Player of the Year

The Best ACC of all time? The pandemic has created a scenario in which the rich got a whole lot richer. The ACC is loaded in 2021, with all five teams in the Top 10 and four of the five in the Top 5 to start the season. Transfers made the teams that were already the best in the country even better, no moreso than Duke. Duke has the superteam of all superteams. The Blue Devils welcomed the top player in college lacrosse, Michael Sowers, to use his final year of eligibility after a Tewaaraton-like start to 2020 at Princeton. Sowers is clearly a game-changer to an already loaded offense, but also consider how Saint Joe’s goalie Mike Adler, Holy Cross face-off specialist Dan O Connell and Sowers’ Princeton linemate Philip Robertson improve the team.
