Equity a priority in 2021, Willoughby mayor says, as Lake County communities address racial disparities

Before equity across the boardÂ â gender, racial, ageism and so forth, is reached, it still has a long way to go, says Willoughby Mayor Robert Fiala.Â
We re making a commitment to fix that and it s something that s probably going to take a lot longer time than what I m going to be in office, he said. If we start the discussions now, then maybe in the near future, we re going to see some progress made with equity.
The city has an obligation to do its best to make a difference with equity across the board, Fiala said.

I think it needs to start with discussion and we need to get comfortable with each other, and we need to be comfortable enough with each other to have open and candid discussion, he said. Then we have to collectively start figuring out strategies to start to make this happen. Â ....

Driver Charged With OVI After Hitting Police Car

(Willoughby Hills) - A 41-year-old Euclid man has been charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, after, on Saturday evening, his pickup truck ran into a Willoughby Hills Police cruiser.
The police cruiser was stopped along I-271 near the I-90 split, while police were dealing with a disabled vehicle blocking a lane. Police were putting out flares to warn drivers, when a pickup truck s driver ignored the warnings, and hit a police cruiser in the rear.
Neither the driver, or any police officers were injured. The driver of the truck was charged with OVI, as police believe he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. ....

WILLOUGHBY HILLS, Ohio (WOIO) - Police said a drunk driver was arrested Saturday night after striking a Willoughby Hills police cruiser pulled alongside the road to help a disabled vehicle.
Willoughby Hills police officers and Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers were assisting a driver on the right side of the northbound lanes of I-271 when the driver of a 2012 Dodge Ram failed to yield, according to a release. ....

WILLOUGHBY HILLS, Ohio – A Euclid man is facing an OVI charge after he hit a Willoughby Hills police cruiser on Interstate 271 late Saturday, Willoughby Hills police said.
The incident happened about 11:15 p.m. Saturday on I-271 northbound near the split with Interstate 90 as officers were assisting with a disabled vehicle blocking the right lane.
Police were warning drivers and diverting traffic with their cruisers and flare lights. A 2012 Dodge Ram truck, driven by a 41-year-old Euclid man, ignored the warnings and struck a cruiser from behind, police said. ....
