My friend, Mike DiMauro, the sports columnist for The Day, wrote a column recently celebrating the re-opening of New London’s iconic Dutch Tavern after a pandemic-related closure of more than a year. In describing The Dutch’s cozy interior, he pointed out, among other qualities at this fine establishment, that there is no Wi-Fi.
“But there are several newspapers,” he wrote, adding parenthetically “A newspaper is a printed publication issued daily and commonly contains news, sports, features, commentary and advertising, in case the word is unfamiliar.”
As is often the case, DiMauro was writing with tongue firmly implanted in cheek. Or was he? ....

A civil rights victory?
In a contrived ceremony Jan 4, Democrat Windham Town Manager James Rivers swore in his first DACA recipient as a Willimantic police officer. We are expected to believe this is some sort of civil rights victory, but is it? It certainly was what liberals would call a woke gesture, but is it really legal to have an illegal alien law-breaker enforcing the law?  
In a brazenly partisan news story, the Willimantic Chronicle reporter Clare Galvin falsely claimed President Donald Trump has tried to disproportionally deport Hispanic dreamers .  In fact, Trump and his supporters want all the illegal aliens deported even the blue-eyed devils from Great Britain because the law is the law.  If we do not like the law, there is a process for changing it. We all know how that works.   ....
