Winston-Salem Symphony principal musicians take center stage in concertos

Winston-Salem Symphony perform George Gershwin s Cuban Overture , conducted by Tim Redmond
The Winston-Salem Symphony is highlighting two of its principal musicians in its âCenterStageâ performance now streaming on demand.
This early spring concert featuring Kathryn Levy on flute and Brooks Whitehouse on cello in concertos by Lukas Foss and Edward Elgar will be available through April 13.
âThis season the symphony has put on a variety of concerts â all musical styles from (George) Gershwin songs to (Joseph) Haydn symphonies,â Timothy Redmond, music director of the Winston-Salem Symphony, said. âWe really wanted the opportunity to feature some of our own amazing orchestra members as concerto soloists. ....

New streaming media platform based in Winston-Salem aims to throw a lifeline to artists and arts organizations

In August 2020, Chad Cheek wanted to do something to help the arts community that had been suffering for months because of the pandemic. So he created Artarie, a curated streaming media platform.
Artarie, pronounced âar-ter-y,â debuted Feb. 12. The platform focuses on arts and cultural content for television, computer and mobile devices. This includes world premieres, live and recorded performances, online classes, lectures and exclusive content.
Through conversations with people on the various boards of directors of arts organizations he serves on, it became clear to Cheek late last summer that organizations were struggling to figure out ways to keep busy. ....
