Following the tragic accident in which a car plunged into the Indian Ocean at Makupa Causeway in Mombasa, Gift Otieno has recounted the harrowing ordeal.
Gift and his mother, Winnie Achieng were in the car when it crashed on Wednesday morning December 23 and was lucky to escape with a few minor injuries though his mother was later pronounced dead after arriving at the Coast General Hospital.
The boy revealed that the Toyota Vitz KCY 556B they were travelling in had a brake failure moments before the tragic crash. ....

A woman died after the car she was driving, a Toyota Vitz KCY 556B, plunged into the Indian Ocean at the Makupa Causeway in Mombasa on Wednesday morning.
Winnie Achieng , 33, who was in the company of her son, Gift Otieno,12, is said to have been driving from Changamwe towards Mombasa Island when it happened.
According to a police report, the deceased was using the outer lane and overtook a motorcycle before hitting pavement and plunging into the ocean. ....

Woman whose car plunged into the ocean in Mombasa dies

According to a police report obtained by the
Nation, Ms Achieng, who was the driver of the ill-fated car, hit a pavement while heading towards Mombasa Island from Changamwe.
It happened that the driver who was at the time using the outer lane overtook a motorcycle which was ahead of her and as when was swerving back, the motor vehicle hit a pavement, lost control and plunged into the Indian Ocean, reads the police report.
The deceased who was driving a Toyota Vitz, registration KCY 556B, had her 12-year-old son in the car at the time of the incident.
