Groton Groton Utilities announced Sunday that it has canceled its boil water advisory after tests showed water is safe to drink in the areas affected by a water main break Friday on Route 12 in front of the KFC restaurant.
The boil water advisory affected the Groton Square Shopping Center and surrounding area, Winding Hollow, Pamela Avenue neighborhood, Winthrop Drive neighborhood, Wayne Road neighborhood and all points in between. It included all customers north of Clarence B. Sharp highway through Groton Square Shopping Center area.
The utility thanked customers for their patience and cooperation. It also pointed out that the “boil water advisory” is a new policy mandated by the state.
Groton Groton Utilities has issued a boil water advisory for portions of Groton until at least Sunday due to a damaged water main located on Route 12 in front of a KFC restaurant. The damage was repaired, all water services have been restored but portions of Groton are under Boil Water Advisory until our lab personnel have run tests for bacteria in the water, Groton Utilities said in a notice. These tests take 24 hours.

One student was taken to Fiona Stanley Hospital with minor injuries following the crash near Winthrop Drive. About 50 school kids, all have been taken off, and there is an ambulance and police in attendance, 6PR listener Ken told the radio station.
Drivers have been told to avoid the area.

The highway s left westbound lane was blocked off by police, reducing traffic to a single lane.
