Winchester Lido campaign reaches over £14k | Hampshire Chronicle

WINCHESTER Lido has made a splash with its crowdfunding campaign.
As previously reported the Winchester Lido Sports Association has been raising funds to restore the building on Worthy Lane.
Now it is celebrating a big fundraising boost. The charity started crowdfunding in December, aiming to raise £4,000. By the time the campaign closed in late January, over £14,000 had been pledged.
Alongside individual donations and gift aid of almost £5,000, the charity will benefit from match-funding grants totalling £8,800 from the city council, Sport England, Sovereign Housing and a local family trust, with Hampshire County Council awarding a further £500 through their councillor grant scheme. ....

Pavilion Project will not be axed by Winchester City Council

THE Pavilion Project will not be axed by Winchester City Council, its leader has insisted.
Uncertainty surrounded the future of the scheme after the council declared it would be reviewing its budget in December in the light of the collapse in income caused by coronavirus.
Cllr Lucille Thompson has claimed that chiefs are working closely with the Pavilion Project community group to ensure the hub at North Walls Recreation Ground is replaced.
She said that the council’s pledged funding of £595,000 remains available.
But she added that the plans may be ‘brought into scale’ of the council’s budget for 2021/22, which is likely to be £3.7million less than 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. ....

Uncertainty around council and Winchester's Pavilion Project

UNCERTAINTY surrounds the ambitious project for a new sports pavilion at North Walls Rec.
Last week the city council announced it was reviewing the scheme, saying the costs were getting too high.
The city council issued a press release but within a couple of days it had been removed from the council website.

Winchester City Council reviewing Pavilion Porkect

The proposed new pavilion at North Walls Rec
MAJOR plans to replace a pavilion in Winchester to create a sports and community hub will be reviewed as costs increase.
In 2017, the city council s Winchester Town Forum planned for a basic £300,000 replacement of the cricket pavilion at North Walls Recreation Ground. However, an alternative innovative proposal was brought forward by the community group Pavilion Project and local architects, AR Design.
The city council pledged additional support for the project earlier this year, with a total of £590,000 to add to community pledges of £160,000 and £50,000 from Sport England.
However, all tenders received have exceeded the Pavilion Project’s cost estimate to build the proposed design by a significant margin and, even after reviewing options to reduce build costs, the overall project remains over £100,000 more than the available budget. ....
