The LGBTQ recreational sports community was rocked this week with the unexpected news that Sin City Classic tournament director Ken Scearce had died. Mr. Scearce, 48, was found unresponsive in his home in Los Angeles Toluca Lake district Wednesday, July 7, around 4:30 p.m. Paramedics were unable to revive him and declared him deceased shortly thereafter of an apparent heart attack. An official cause of death is not known. He was an extraordinary person and leader, the Sin City Classic board said in a formal statement. Ken poured his heart and soul into the Sin City Classic. It would not be what it is today without his love, leadership, and dedication. His loss is felt across the country because he cherished relationships with so many of you. Ken was passionate about this festival and we are committed to honoring his incomparable legacy. ....

Technical glitch leads to hand vote-count Due to a technical glitch that impaired the computers that typically tabulate election results, members of the Maury County Election Commission, including Jason Whatley and Maury County Election Administrator Todd Baxter, were forced to count the ballots by hand using addition machines and calculators and triple checking, Whatey said. Once the results were tabulated by hand, the final calculations were handwritten on a large white sheet of paper and posted on the back wall of the board room at Spring Hill City Hall on Thursday. The results showed that voter turnout in Spring Hill could exceed 8%, a goal of retiring mayor Rick Graham, who tried to raise the turnout through a pie-in-the-face challenge to the community. ....
