UN Chief urges countries to step up global plan for COVID-19 vaccines

UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, on Monday urged countries to take bold decisions to end COVID-19 pandemic crisis and build a safe and healthy future for all.
In a video message to the World Health Assembly, Guterres warned against the dangers of a two-speed global response, a concern he had frequently expressed.
The Health Assembly is World Health Organisation (WHO)’s highest decision-making body and is attended by delegations from all around the world.
“Sadly, unless we act now, we face a situation in which rich countries vaccinate the majority of their people and open their economies.

One general characteristic that marks out Nigeria’s current government is the inability of all the relevant arms of government to be up and doing in the critical area of maintaining global best practices in terms of accountability, probity and transparency in public finance. These qualities are the democratic benchmarks that marks a Country out as a responsible constitutional democracy.
Closely following the above, is the illogicality and fallacies being bandied about, and promoted in the media by propagandists allied with Federal government as means of confusing everyone so as to justify the clear lack of accountability. Unfortunately, the Nigerian media have completely abandoned her sole role and responsibility as the most credible agenda setting institution and have decided to offer news pages to all kinds of characters masquerading about as key government officials.
Before leaving town, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue and U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer announced the appointment of 67 members to serve on seven agricultural trade advisory committees. A complete list of committee members are available at fas.usda.gov/atacs and includes a who’s who of influential voices from commodity groups to agribusinesses.
The Agricultural Policy Advisory Committee is comprised of senior representatives from across the U.S. agricultural community who provide advice to USDA and USTR on trade policy matters including the operation of existing trade agreements and the negotiation of new agreements. Members of the six Agricultural Technical Advisory Committees provide technical advice and guidance from the perspective of their specific product sectors. This group of appointed advisors will serve until 2025.
