LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) â Perhaps no celebration of the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. has been more important than those that will take place around the country on Monday.
We thought about canceling, but it was way, way, way too important, said Jay Alexander, a member of the city s MLK committee, which is organizing Monday s march in downtown Lexington.
Alexander, who also works at a local radio station in Lexington, said this year s march is essential because of the progress made within the Black Lives Matter movement. This year s march follows the deaths last year of Breonna Taylor in Louisville and George Floyd in Minneapolis, who were killed during altercations with law enforcement. ....

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) â Saturday marked the beginning of Kwanzaa, a seven-day celebration of African-American and Pan-African culture.
In Lexington, the Lyric Theatre is adapting its celebration this year to help people observe at home due to the pandemic.
They provided take-home educational kits for families focusing on Kwanzaa.
The theater is using social media to share pictures and videos.
Creativity, or Kuumba, is the sixth principle of Kwanzaa.
Executive Director Whit Whitaker says this year that principle means even more.
The pandemic has caused everyone especially in the arts and nonprofits realm to reach deep down and become more creative as far as having meetings like this or presenting offerings to stay connected, said Whitaker. This year, Kuumba for sure is going to be very relevant and truly exemplify the spirit of this pandemic. ....
