The directors made the decision to activate the warming center due to a forecast of frigid weather beginning Monday night that will likely diminish the availability of existing shelter space. The cities activated the facility for Thursday through Sunday nights. They announced Sunday night they will keep it open Monday and Tuesday night, too, due to ongoing life-threatening cold temperatures and because significant snowfall is expected Monday into Tuesday. The warming center will open at 5 p.m. each night and close at 8 a.m. the following morning. The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for the region, beginning at 3 p.m. on Monday. According to the forecast, heavy snow is expected to begin Monday evening, with total snow accumulations of up to 14 inches and wind gusts as high as 40 mph. ....
