Mineral County holds virtual Math Field Day for Keyser, Frankfort

KEYSER - Due to COVID and the health restrictions, the annual Mineral County Math Field Day was not held in the fall and regional and state competitions are not being held this year.
Although the school system was unable to hold the county competition, a virtual competition was organized thanks to Jessie O Quinn, mathematics instructor at Potomac State College. Zoom meetings were organized for students in grades 5-12 where they took the exam online. All participants received certificates and winners received ribbons for placing.

KEYSER - A COVID-19 outbreak has been reported at Keyser Middle School, with two students in the same classroom having tested positive.
The Mineral County Health Department reported Thursday that they, along with Mineral County Schools staff, were working to notify anyone who might have come in contact with the two cases.
According to superintendent Troy Ravenscroft, as of Wednesday, there were three positive cases involving students, and 110 students and two employees were on quarantine.
Ravenscroft releases a COVID-19 report for the school system every Wednesday.
According to the latest statistics from the health department, there are 95 currently active COVID-19 cases in the county. The health department also reported two additional COVID-related deaths earlier this week, bringing Mineral County’s total deaths since the pandemic started to 84. ....

KEYSER - Primary students in the Frankfort District are scheduled to be in a new school by the 2023-2024 term.
The West Virginia School Building Authority announced Monday that Mineral County had been approved for the total $19,147. 590 requested for the construction of a new Frankfort Primary School .
The total $21.3 million project will construct the school on the campus with Frankfort Middle and Frankfort High School and will house students from Fort Ashby Primary, WIley Ford Primary and Frankfort Intermediate schools. The Mineral County Board of Education voted Feb. 25 to close those three aging schools. ....

KEYSER – The Mineral County Board of Education has set the wheels in motion for the eventual closure of three Frankfort District schools and the resultant opening of a new Frankfort Primary School.
In a special meeting held Thursday evening, board president Lara Courrier made the motion to approve the reasons for the closures, and to authorize superintendent of schools Troy Ravenscroft to publish the required legal advertisements for three upcoming public hearings on the proposal.
During the hearings, members of the public, as well as county employees, can appear in person and comment either for or against the closures. ....
