He’s in an upbeat mood. As he later says of himself, “I’m no doomer and gloomer.” This is a serious understatement. Free tickets are now available for the fifth West Wicklow Chamber Music Festival, which takes place, online, from May 20 to June 14.
Building on the success of previous festivals, the 2021 West Wicklow Festival boasts an incredible line-up of musicians from all over the world, with online concerts being held every Thursday and Monday for the duration of the festival.
The festival programme features 18 incredible artists over four weeks, including performances from the captivating Irish mezzo-soprano Rachel Kelly, internationally acclaimed Dutch violinist Rosanne Philippens with French pianist Julien Quentin, renowned French string quartet Quatuor Van Kuijk, the powerfully poetic UK based Sitkovetsky Trio, leading Turkish cellist Jamal Aliyev and English pianist Sam Armstrong, Gramophone Award winning Scottish guitarist Sean Shibe ....

Composers to put their skills to the test

Entry is free and is open to all composers currently based in Ireland or holding Irish citizenship.
Competition entrants should write a piece of music for the violin and piano of between three and five minutes in duration. The work should not have been previously performed in public prior to its world premiére at the festival.
The competition is open to composers of all ages, including emerging composers, and entrants can only submit one work. Each entry received will be judged anonymously by an independent judging panel.
The winning composer s new work will be premièred at the West Wicklow Chamber Music Festival s Rising Star recital taking place on Saturday, May 29, and will be performed by Phoebe White on violin and Peter Regan on piano. ....
