Edmonton s Black-owned market celebrated its first anniversary Saturday with an outdoor market featuring shops, services, and live entertainment.
The Black-Owned Market Edmonton (BOM YEG) is made up of volunteers with an aim to support and build up Black-owned businesses, entrepreneurs, creatives and community organizations.
There s nothing that s been like this market in Edmonton before we started, said co-founder and chief business officer Rochelle Ignacio. ....

'We want to keep building better': Black-Owned Market to celebrate first anniversary

EDMONTON
An Edmonton market featuring local Black-owned businesses is closing in on its first anniversary.
The Black-Owned Market Edmonton (BOM YEG) is an event and collective that supports Black entrepreneurs in the city by offering resources and events to help reduce inequality gaps faced due to systemic racism.
The group will celebrate its one-year anniversary market on July 24 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Victoria School of the Arts parking lot.
More than 25 local vendors will be featured at the pop-up market, alongside live music.
“It’s really hard for businesses to survive their first year,” said Rochelle Ignacio, co-founder of BOM YEG and operations business officer. “When everyone was pausing their events we decided to start a brand new organization. ....

【红色文物】陈铁军《自述手稿》亮相佛山革命文物展_南方网

　　1904年，陈铁军出生在佛山一个归侨富商家庭，父母为她取名陈燮君。她9岁读私塾，17岁进入由郭鉴冰在佛山创办的第一间新学制的女子小学季华两等女子小学校（今铁军小学）就读，逐渐接受了新文化、新思想的启蒙教育。
　　在《自述手稿》中，陈铁军写道：“余行年九岁，奉严慈之命，始入私塾。肄业稚气未除，曾不知读书之有益，加以资质迟钝，管教亦不良，忽忽八年，可谓之虚抛岁月而已。”
　　陈铁军就读季华两等女子小学校时，校长郭鉴冰是她那届的年级主任，通过郭鉴冰的循循善诱以及一言一行的影响，她的求学意志非常强烈。陈铁军重笔讲述了郭鉴冰对其影响，令她认为“与入学前，判若两人”。
　　据史料记载，郭鉴冰是民国时期佛山著名的教育家，因为目睹在帝国主义操纵下开办的基督教会学校所进行� ....
