ACU receives $8.7m funding to boost nursing wards, health research and IT
ACU has received $8.7 million from the Victorian Higher Education State Investment Fund for five new projects that will spearhead health research projects, deliver new nursing labs and improve student experience.
Headlining the funding package is the new $1.9 million nurse training ward in Ballarat – which will double ACU’s capacity for pre-clinical training of nurses – and the refurbishment of existing facilities to cater for students with special needs at the regional campus.
Victorian Minister for Training and Skills and Higher Education, Gayle Tierney, announced the funding package during a visit to the Ballarat campus today. ....

The funding, announced today by Victoria Agriculture Minister Mary-Anne Thomas as part of the Victorian Higher Education State Investment Fund (VHESIF), will be used to fund:
Agriculture Production Platform ($3.5 million), to expand La Trobe’s research glasshouses, creating new growth facilities and controlled environment pods. The refurbished glasshouses will provide a unique facility where industry partners will be able to rapidly optimise management and breeding, and use “big data’ to improve yield, quality and plant health.
Applied Industry Agri Platforms ($6.5 million), to develop lab facilities and infrastructure to house dedicated plant phenomics growth chambers that are digitally accessible to regional industry, researchers and students. Plant phenomics uses high-tech visual apparatus to detect and link plants’ physical characteristics with genes, such as seed quality in terms of composition and high-value products from medicinal plants. ....

Deakin Uni To Create World-Leading Clean Energy Products

Victoria will cement its leadership in clean, green energy under a new $34.9 million plan to create a world-first battery facility and a regional hydrogen hub, funded by the Andrews Labor Government.
Minister for Higher Education Gayle Tierney and Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change Lily D’Ambrosio today visited Deakin University to launch the projects.
They include the Battery Technology Research and Innovation Hub 2.0 (BatTRI-Hub 2.0) at Deakin’s Burwood campus. It features a testing lab and pilot production line to research and manufacture advanced batteries using lithium and sodium.
The products will be developed to meet bespoke requirements in defence, agriculture, disaster zones and health settings. It will enhance the work of BatTRI-Hub 1.0 which has already created valuable products for industry, including Toyota in Japan. ....
