On the surface, these are the best of days for Democrat moderates in elected office and the worst of days for their Republican counterparts. Democrats John Hickenlooper and Michael Bennet are cheerfully influential in D.C., while defeated Republicans Scott Tipton and Corey Gardner sit gloomily on the sidelines. Joe Biden passes consequential legislation without GOP support, while the Man from Mar-a-Lago calls on his followers to get rid of GOP moderates.Â
National politics have often been complex and unpredictable â just ask Hillary Clinton. I have no idea whatâs going to happen in 2024, so letâs move on and focus on the Colorado Republican Party. Personally, Iâm pretty much OK with moderate Dems in charge, but an enfeebled opposition is bad for the state and bad for democracy.
Governor Mark Gordon Throws Support Behind Colorado County That Wants to Secede, Join Wyoming
On 2/4/21 at 1:13 PM EST
Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon shared his support for Weld County, a rural Colorado county home to nearly 324,000 residents, efforts to secede from the state and join Wyoming on Monday. We would love that, Gordon said during an interview with local Colorado radio station KOA NewsRadio. From time to time states have said, Gosh we like what Wyoming is doing and so we d be happy.
Colorado Governor Jared Polis pushed back against Gordon s support, saying Weld County residents are proud to be a part of his state.
In 2019, Weld County commissioner and Republican state Sen. Vicki Marble became the first elected officials to publicly entertain a motion to secede over concerns that lawmakers were not considering the needs of their rural constituents.

A controversial measure proposed by a Northern Colorado county that if passed, would make it a part of Wyoming has gained the support of our northern neighbors governor.
The measure was introduced in Weld County, Colorado, a county north of Denver and bordering Wyoming which is primarily known as being home to the city of Greeley. If passed, Weld County would secede from Colorado and become a county in the state of Wyoming instead.
The proposed measure is heavily politically motivated, as not only is Wyoming the least populated state in the United States, it is also heavily conservative in nature. Weld County is also heavily politically conservative largely due to the oil and gas as well as the beef-producing industries that account for a great amount of the county s monetary income and jobs.
