Date Time Police appeal to return stolen ashes to victim Richmond police are investigating a theft that occurred in Richmond sometime between Friday night and yesterday. Investigators have been told a red Mazda 3 sedan was parked at the rear of a property on Murphy Street when unknown offender/s broke into the vehicle sometime between 7pm Friday evening and midday yesterday. A number of items were stolen from inside the vehicle, including the victim’s deceased mother’s ashes, that were in an urn inside the vehicle. Officers have released an image of the urn in the hope that someone recognise it and contacts police. ....
Date Time Large fire at hayshed and fodder processing plant 25 firefighting vehicles have turned out to a large fire at a hay shed and fodder processing plant near St Arnaud. CFA was notified at 07:12 to reports of a shed fire in the area, with crews finding a shed of approximately 150mx50m with around 8000 large square bails well alight, with the fire spreading to a production shed of approximately 50mx50m. State Duty Officer Peter Lucas said crews were fast to escalate request for assistance following the initial reports. “Very early on, we asked for 20 tankers and FRV assisted with some specialist equipment on top of that from as far away as Bendigo,” said SDO Lucas. ....
Bus stop idea referred to committees Councillor Tom Kennedy requested that a new bus stop named after Roz, Barb, and Pat Gauci be built on the corner of Gypsum and Newton Streets, and a plaque be installed recognising them. The motion was not supported as the corner is not a designated bus stop according to Transport NSW, however an amendment was passed referring the matter to Council’s Asset Naming Committee and Traffic Committee for further investigation. Report on community garden Councillor Kennedy asked that a report be prepared on the possibility of converting the old Alma Pool site into a community garden. The motion was passed. ....

Date Time One day as a firefighter for face of GFA One of CFA’s brigades that have been heavily involved in fundraising for the Good Friday Appeal has hosted the face of this year’s appeal. Two-year-old Malu Hunt, along with his brothers and parents, visited the Werribee Fire Station on the eve of Good Friday. Werribee CFA volunteer Peter May has been leading the brigade’s fundraising efforts for several years, and said it was an honour see the young family come through the station. “I was pretty chuffed to have the face of the appeal here,” said Peter. ....
