Jason Hollins said to have no assets or savings to repay money he defrauded from mother s bank account
A MAN who frittered away more than £56,000 from his dementia-suffering mother’s bank account, has no realisable assets to repay the money, a court heard.
Jason Hollins was said to have “pilfered” from his now late mother’s savings to meet his own debts, also “squandering” some of the stolen money on gambling and scratch cards.
The 48-year-old defendant, of Dorset Crescent, Moorside, Consett, was jailed for 27 months at Durham Crown Court last month, after admitting fraud.
Financial inquiries have since taken place to see what can be confiscated from him under the Proceeds of Crime Act. ....

Cannabis gardener Samet Mezini took role out of despair as construction jobs dried up in pandemic
AN illegal immigrant agreed to tend a domestic cannabis farm after work on constructions sites dried up during the pandemic.
Samet Mezini was placed in a rented property in John Street, Beamish Village, to act as “gardener” to the plants, being grown across four rooms of the house.
He was arrested when police visited on March 12.
Durham Crown Court heard 56 semi-mature plants were recovered from the four rooms, where their growth was assisted by lighting, heating and watering equipment, less than a year old and worth an estimated £8,000. ....

In reality, Michael Taylor, 59, was inadvertently communicating with an undercover police officer.
Durham Crown Court was told the “girl”, “Emma”, made it clear she was 13 soon after they “met” on the dating app Fast Flirting, on December 7.
Ian West, prosecuting, said their messaging moved to Whats App and remained “innocuous” on the first day.
But, when it resumed the next day he veered onto sex, asking if she was ever, “naughty on her own”, encouraging the girl to touch her private parts.
Upon arrest he was frank with police and the defendant, of Albert Street, Seaham, admitted attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity. ....
