Residents in the area say the leak has been going on for weeks.
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - A water leak at a vacant property along Washington Street West on Charleston’s West Side could be a cause for Sunday’s landslide, West Virginia American Water said.
The water leak was reported last Tuesday, according to a statement from WVAW.
The leak at the vacant home caused neighbor Freda Bradley significant damage to her front lawn damaging the fences on her property, knocking over the retaining wall into the street. and turning off the gas. ....

Man in stable condition after police shooting in Charleston

CHARLESTON â Charleston police shot a man wielding a knife Friday afternoon on the West Side after he made a âlunging movementâ toward them, police Chief Tyke Hunt said.
Denaul Dickerson, 33, who is Black, was in stable condition in the hospital at 6 p.m. Friday after the 12:45 p.m. shooting near Washington Street West and Greendale Drive, the chief said.
Police were initially dispatched after receiving a call about a man threatening to stab another person, Hunt said. Itâs unclear whether Dickerson was this man.
At a news briefing Friday, Charleston police shared two body camera videos from the incident. The release of the video footage was an attempt by the department to be âas transparent as possible,â Hunt said. ....

Plans for two new stores for Nyssa and Vale are now being reviewed by Adele Schaffeld, building official for Malheur County Building Department.
Schaffeld confirmed she had received the plans for two Dollar General Stores late Wednesday.
According to the plans, the Nyssa store is slated to be located at 601 Main, at the intersection of U.S. Highway 20-26 and Oregon Highway 201.
The building which is currently on the lot will be demolished.
An assortment of businesses have rotated through the building over the years, including most recently a pizza parlor, the grocery store it was originally established as, the school district which used it for classrooms after the fire in 1974, an auto parts store, a sandwich shop and many others. ....
