The Chipley High School Beta Club will celebrate National Beta Week by joining more than half a million members participating in National Beta Week activities at local, state, and national levels. Gainer, Drake host delegation meetings By Carol Kent Wyatt | Washington County News @CAROLKENTWYATT HOLMES AND WASHINGTON COUNTIES – Senator George Gainer and Representative Brad Drake recently hosted a series of legislative delegation meetings to hear from constituents and government leaders in Holmes, Jackson, Walton, and Washington counties. Holding steady on education funding was among topics raised in both Holmes and Washington counties, with Holmes County Superintendent of Schools Buddy Brown and Washington County Superintendent Joe Taylor each addressing the delegation. “Education is the one thing I feel we cannot back up on,” said Superintendent Brown. “Florida has made great strides in the last few years; we’ve become a leader in education, and we can’t take the chance to back up on that now. We can sacrifice in other areas, but not for our future. We have to maintain.” ....
Adlerstein named editor of The Star Special to the Star A veteran reporter who has steered the Apalachicola Times for the past two decades will be expanding those duties to take the helm at The Star. David M. Adlerstein, reporter and editor since Jan. 2002 of the weekly newspaper serving Franklin County, is adding Gulf County to his assignment, and will serve as editor overseeing both the Star and the Times. These two longstanding weekly newspapers, together with the Holmes County Times-Advertiser and Washington County News, were recently purchased by Neves Media Publishing, based out of Bay County, from Gannett Media Corp. ....
