Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, is looking to name a chief diversity officer, according to the city council s budget plans.
The coastal South Carolina city s recommended budget for the next fiscal year includes a proposal to hire a chief diversity officer tasked with overseeing the promotion of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Officials held a retreat for the budget on April 15-16.
“We really need a professional to help lead that conversation to guide us in that direction, to make sure we’re doing it correctly,” said Mark Kruea, public information officer for Myrtle Beach.
The need to ensure diversity in the workplace extends beyond Myrtle Beach, Kruea said.
