Royal family say final farewell as Prince Philip laid to rest

Don t show me this message again✕ He had been a constant by her side for almost 74 years, but as the Duke of Edinburgh was laid to rest on Saturday, the Queen was a solitary figure, forced to sit alone at St George’s Chapel in Windsor because of Covid distancing rules. The event, meticulously planned by Prince Philip and adapted to work around restrictions brought about by the pandemic, saw the him praised for his “resolute faith and loyalty” during his time as the nation’s longest-serving royal consort. Carried towards St George’s Chapel on a Land Rover Defender he had helped to design for the event, the funeral involved more than 730 members of the armed forces in a spectacle that drew scores of onlookers onto the streets of Windsor.

Flowers laid at Villa Guardamangia in tribute to Prince Philip

Updated 1.15pm Members of the public on Saturday paid tribute to the late Prince Philip by laying flowers at Villa Guardamangia, where he lived while serving in the navy in the late 1940s.  The tribute, organised by the Malta George Cross Movement, saw members of the movement, public and Royal Naval Association Malta branch, Malta Command WW2 Living History Group lay wreaths at the steps of the historic villa where Philip and Elizabeth, at the time a princess, lived between 1949 and 1951.  The event was documented using photo and video.  Elsewhere, in Valletta, people gathered at Upper Barrakka Gardens to witness a gun salute for the late Prince, fired from the Saluting Battery at 12pm.

Before she ascended the throne in 1953, she split her time between Malta and England, leaving a young Prince Charles with his grandparents during the visits.
