Borders Crematorium recycles metals to help local groups

MORE than £2,000 was given to two Borders groups during the Christmas holiday, thanks to fundraising by a local crematorium. With permission from families, the Westerleigh Group – which operates the Borders Crematorium – raised the funds by recycling metals recovered during cremation across its 34 crematoria and cemeteries around the UK. In December, the Borders Crematorium, near Melrose, donated almost £1,400 to the Haining Estate, in Selkirk, as part of the estate s Merry Meander event. The generous donation from the Westerleigh Group enabled us to bring a little light into an otherwise very dark time, said John Nichol, a trustee for the Haining Trust.

Light up Cassadaga has strong turnout | News, Sports, Jobs

Santa and his Elves visited the recent Light Up Cassadaga festival. Submitted Photos Park Church in Cassadaga held a living nativity during the Light Up Cassadaga festival. Santa and his Elves visited the recent Light Up Cassadaga festival. CASSADAGA A Light Up Cassadaga celebration was recently held in the village. Santa stopped by, arriving by the Cassadaga Volunteer Fire Department firetruck number 102. Santa’s arrival opened the winter weekend event. Santa said when he left the north pole, there was little snow on the ground and was surprised when he arrived in Cassadaga, as there is usually lots of snow. So since he was not able to use his eight reindeer, members of the fire department helped him out with a ride on the firetruck. Elf Sue and Elf Bonita helped Santa give out the gifts to the children.

Selkirk: Klaus animator helps make online nativity film

BORDERS film animator Amanda Aiken worked on an Oscar-nominated movie last year. But recently the 30-year-old lent her talents to Selkirk, helping to create an online nativity play for the town and surrounding communities. Aiken, 30, has been making films since she was a teenager, and last year she had the opportunity to work on an Oscar-nominated animation, Klaus, which can be found on Netflix. [ Klaus] has been my largest project so far, said Aiken. I ve worked on smaller features before but this was my first big animated film. READ MORE: Klaus is an origins story of Santa Claus and the tradition of writing letters to Santa. The story was created, written and directed by award-winning animator Sergio Pablos.
