The executive director of the TDC was fired without cause at Tuesday s Walton County Commission meeting.
WALTON COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - At the Tuesday Walton County commission meeting, Vice-Chair Mike Barker made the motion to terminate Jay Tusa. He’s the executive director of the Tourist Development Council.
Barker claims Tusa did not schedule a meeting with him about the cost of the new TDC visitor center. He also says the executive director should have been aware that the law changed in 2018 about how much of the tourism tax must be spent on marketing. ....

Walton County reviewing Chat Holley, Walton's Landing projects

FREEPORT A developing Walton County government proposal to put an amphitheater, passive recreational facilities and other public projects on 220 acres between Chat Holley Road and U.S. 98, east of County Road 393 and west of U.S. Highway 331, took another step toward possible eventual reality on Wednesday.
The county s Technical Review Committee (TRC), one of the entities in the county s planning and zoning apparatus, voted unanimously Wednesday to recommend, with minor conditions, that the county planning commission recommend approval of zoning and land use map changes needed for the project to the Walton County Board of County Commissioners.

St. Joe Co. recommends Walton County not adopt mobility plan

SANTA ROSA BEACH The St. Joe Co., a real estate development firm working on a massive 50-year project covering more than 100,000 acres straddling Walton and Bay counties, has weighed in with some criticism of how Walton County has developed a proposed mobility plan and fee that would affect the company s development plans.
The Bay-Walton Sector plan, which broadly calls for construction of more than 100,000 residential units, millions of square feet of retail, commercial and industrial space, and conservation and preservation areas, has been approved in recent years by the governments of both counties.
The potential impact of the Bay-Walton Sector Plan on the transportation infrastructure in Walton County has been a part of local discussions of the mobility plan, but that talk has been overshadowed by public concerns over a two-lane road proposed for the Point Washington State Forest and concerns in the business community over fee collection. ....

Walton County, NWFSC partner on DeFuniak Springs Walton Works complex

DeFUNIAK SPRINGS An almost four-year project came to fruition Thursday as numerous community leaders celebrated the completion of the Walton Works Public Safety Complex with a ribbon cutting.
The complex, located at the Walton County Sheriff’s Office in DeFuniak Springs, is comprised of a fire tower and a driving pad to be used jointly by Northwest Florida State College and the WCSO.
The complex is an addition to the Walton Works Training Center of Excellence, which was completed earlier this year and is designed to help expand public safety training in Walton County.
“This is an opportunity to create the best and brightest here, and if you want the best and brightest you have to have control over it,” said Walton County Sheriff Mike Adkinson. “You need to have a hand in the way they’re being trained for the future.” ....
