Palestinian Factions, Fatah Refuse to Hold Elections without Jerusalem

Palestinian factions announced their support to the Fatah movement which refused to hold elections if Israel did not allow them in Jerusalem.
Member of Fatah Central Committee Hussein al-Sheikh asserted that the elections will take place, adding that Jerusalem is a major issue and “we will not sell Jerusalem for the sake of the elections.”
Sheikh told local radio that Fatah sent an official letter to Israel over two months ago, requesting permission to hold elections in East Jerusalem in accordance with the signed agreements. However, they haven t received an answer till this moment. ....

Palestinian leftists have failed to form a coalition to compete in May s legislative elections for the Palestinian Authority after the collapse of nearly a month of discussions.
Five Palestinian left-wing parties had been in negotiations to run in a unified list, but ultimately were unable to come to an agreement over fundamental issues such as their collective attitude towards the 1993 Oslo Accords and the priorities for arranging the electoral list.
Four of the parties, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP), the Palestinian People s Party and the Palestinian National Initiative, submitted separate lists to the Central Elections Committee to run in the elections, while the Palestinian Democratic Union (FDA) decided to participate on the ruling Fatah party s list. ....

Ancient Jordan site restoration brings locals and refugees jobs

In the ruins of an ancient Byzantine church in northern Jordan, local townspeople and Syrian refugees work side-by-side on a project that preserves cultural heritage and fights poverty.
Meticulously operating by hand with tweezers and brushes, workers restore a mosaic floor piece by piece at the St John the Baptist church, built in 619 AD. It is one of three church mosaic floors under restoration, or recently restored, in the small town of Rihab, adding to an impressive array of such national treasures.
Jordan s most renowned mosaic is one of the oldest maps of the Holy Land, consisting of over two million mosaic stones originally built into the floor of a sixth century Byzantine church in Madaba. ....
