A fried finger food, wild onion cicada nibblers, features the bug-eyed insects.
The first reports of Pennsylvanians spotting emerged Brood X, 17-year periodical cicadas began to surface in the past few days, not just the holes from which they are about to emerge or some of the grubs under a log someone moved, but actual cicadas on the sides of trees or shrubs.
The singing or buzzing, which usually follows emergence by 5 days or so, will begin this week in many spots throughout central Pennsylvania. ....

Two playgrounds set for eventual removal are spared in Lake Zurich
The playground equipment at Jonquil Park in Lake Zurich is no longer set for removal after the village board decided to add it to the village s playground renovation plan on Monday.

In part because of the pandemic, the playground equipment at two small parks in Lake Zurich that had been scheduled for eventual removal will now be maintained by the village.
During the Lake Zurich village board meeting this week, trustees told the village staff that equipment at Jonquil Park, at 519 Carolian Drive, and Warwick Park, at 858 Warwick Lane, should stay put. ....

'Vehicle residents' on rise in Rhode Island during COVID pandemic


PROVIDENCE A trash-strewn parking lot sandwiched between La Gigantes Meat Market and a pawn shop on Elmwood Avenue has been home for the last two months for Matthew Roberts, his girlfriend and dog.
Roberts has paid at least $100 a week and done work for the market’s owner in exchange for parking his 1992 Ford Econoline RV on the dirt lot. He s been told, though, that at the end of the month it s time to move on. Once again, Roberts will be in search of a safe place to park. 
“I can’t find anywhere to go. Even friends and family don’t want us there,” said Roberts, 40. ....

Leafy confines in and around the Lehigh Valley are about to be abuzz with the return of 17-year cicadas.
That means a first for the region, since their emergence is expect to overlap with the hatch of the destructive pest known as the spotted lanternfly.
Local communities last saw periodical cicadas we’re not talking the annual ones that come out each summer in 2013. Periodical cicadas are grouped in broods, and that year brought out the 17-year cicadas’ Brood II in areas including the Slate Belt. ....
