Tributes were paid to the workers and employees of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP), who lost their lives to the COVID-19, on the 91st day of the relay hunger strike, being organised under the aegis of the Visakha Ukku Parirakshana Porata Committee at the Steel Plant arch here on Thursday.
The workers and union leaders of the Steel Melting Shop (SMS) - 1 of the VSP participated in the relay hunger strike on Thursday. The 78th Ward Corporator B. Ganga Rao described SMS as a vital component of the VSP. It was unfortunate that the maximum number of COVID-19 victims in the VSP were in the 18 to 45 years age group, he said and demanded that the steel plant management and the State government take measures for early vaccination of the employees. ....

‘It is the responsibility of government to ensure that workers are vaccinated without delay’
Communist Party of India(Marxist) city secretary and 78th Ward Corporator B. Ganga Rao demanded that the government provide 5,000 vaccine doses to the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP). He visited a vaccination centre in the 78th ward (Ukkunagaram).
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Ganga Rao said that a vast majority of workers and employees in the VSP were in the 18 to 45 years age group. It was the responsibility of the government to provide vaccine to them and save their lives. Both Covishield and Covaxin doses should be provided so that those who took Covaxin as the first dose would get the same as the second dose, he said. ....

A preparatory meeting was held for the newly-elected GVMC corporators on Tuesday ahead of the council meeting which is scheduled for April 9.
The meeting was chaired by Mayor Golagani Hari Venkata Kumari and Deputy Mayor Giyyani Sridhar.
The meeting was convened to create awareness among the corporators about various development works and ongoing projects in the city.
Chief Engineer M. Venkateswara Rao spoke on various projects, including drinking water, horticulture, electricity and other engineering works, being taken up by the GVMC. ....

Two persons, including a minor, were arrested on Monday in connection with the murder of a 47-year-old YSRCP Corporator, Kampara Ramesh, on the outskirts of Kakinada in the early hours of February 12.
Addressing mediapersons, Kakinada Deputy Superintendent of Police(DSP) V. Bheema Rao on Monday said: “The prime accused, Gurajana Veera Venkata Satyanarayana (Chinna) and a 17-year-old boy, have been taken into custody for mauling the Ramesh to death.”
On February 12, the accused reportedly ran his car over Kampara Ramesh, 9th Ward Corporator of the Kakinada Municipal Corporation, following an argument over financial matters. ....

East Godavari (Andhra Pradesh) [India], February 12 (ANI): Kakinada ninth ward Corporator Kampara Ramesh was murdered on Thursday midnight around 2:30 am in Andhra Pradesh s Kakinada city, the police said.
Speaking to ANI over phone, Kakinada Deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Bhimarao said that the ward corporator was hit by a car near a car repair shed.
Before the murder, Ramesh had consumed liquor in the same shed with some friends. When they were about to leave the place, a verbal brawl took place that lead to the mishap, Kakinada DSP said. ....
