Wisma Putra to summon Chinese envoy, issue diplomatic note of protest over airspace intrusion

PETALING JAYA: Wisma Putra has summoned the Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia Ouyang Yujing for an explanation after 16 Chinese military aircraft were detected near Malaysian airspace on Monday (May 31).
Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said Wisma Putra will also issue a diplomatic note of protest over the incident.
“Based on the report by the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF), the ministry will issue a diplomatic note of protest against the intrusion to the Government of the People’s Republic of China.
“The ministry will also summon the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Malaysia to provide an explanation regarding this breach of the Malaysian airspace and sovereignty by the 16 People’s Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) aircraft,” he said in a statement Tuesday (June 1). ....

Cyprus has closed its airspace to flights from Belarus, joining a list of European Union countries imposing restrictions following the forced landing of a passenger jet in Minsk on May 23, Reuters reported. The aviation authority had banned airlines registered in Belarus from using Cyprus’ airspace and airports from May 28, a transport ministry spokesperson said. Most of Belarus’ neighbours and many other European nations have banned Belarusian national airline Belavia flights in anger over the forced landing of a Ryanair jet en route to Lithuania from Greece and the arrest of a dissident journalist on. ....

LONDON: Aircraft have been instructed to avoid Belarusian airspace following the “state-sponsored hijack” of a Ryanair flight to enable the arrest of a prominent critic of Alexander Lukashenko’s regime.
Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said further sanctions are being considered against the Lukashenko administration – including the suspension of energy pipelines in Belarus – and Belarus’s ambassador in London had been summoned for a dressing down.
Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said he has instructed the Civil Aviation Authority to request airlines avoid Belarusian airspace “in order to keep passengers safe”. He also suspended the operating permit for Belavia, the country’s state-owned airline. ....
