BNP fight turns nasty MASERU-TWO candidates vying to lead the Basotho National Party (BNP), ’Malineo Matsephe and ’Mota Nkuatsana, are in trouble for allegedly “bringing the party into disrepute”. The party’s secretary general, Tšepo Lethobane, has instructed the two to withdraw comments they made which he says were an attack on the BNP. Lethobane has also instructed Motsephe and Nkuatsana to go to Radio Lesotho where they reportedly uttered the words against the party to publicly withdraw the comments and ask for forgiveness from BNP members. Lethobane accuses the duo of saying the BNP is corrupt, thus “tarnishing the good image” of the party. ....

This after three of the six contestants last week went on national radio to accuse the party’s current national executive committee (NEC) of corruption. The three are Professor Lehlohonolo Mosotho, ‘Mota Nkuoatsana and ‘Mamotsepe Motseoa. They have since been slapped with letters demanding that they retract their statements and apologise for their conduct “which is likely to bring the party into disrepute”. Hospital support staff join strike MASERU-OPERATIONS at the Queen ’Mamohato Memorial Hospital, also known as Tšepong, has ground to a halt after supporting staff joined the nurses’ strike which has been dragging on for the past two weeks. Chefs, receptionists, ward clerks and other support staff joined the strike on Monday. This has completely crippled the referral hospital’s operations. The nurses are complaining that their salaries are lower than those of their counterparts at other hospitals. They are also demanding improved working conditions. The support staff have similar grievances. Hlalefang Seoaholimo, the secretary general for the Lesotho Workers Association (LEWA), said the strike by the support staff has long been in the making. ....
