Rep Doudera hosting affordable housing webinar March 30

For years, many Midcoast towns have struggled with issues of affordable and attainable housing. Now, thanks to the pandemic and a COVID-19 fueled real estate boom, the situation has become even more complicated. Those seeking affordable homes such as “boomeranging” young people, older residents wishing to downsize and remain in their communities, the unhoused, and more  all face the challenges of a lack of suitable places to live, a news release stated.  Representative Vicki Doudera, D-Camden, will moderate Tuesday, March 30 a Zoom webinar from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. featuring a panel of experts exploring local housing, solutions now underway, and strategies going forward.

Waterville invited to apply for grant that could lead to $400,000 The application process to the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston is in two phases and communities accepted could get up to $400,000 each to help improve specific areas of their city, town or region. Share WATERVILLE The city has been invited to apply for a planning grant that could lead, eventually, to receiving a total of $400,000 to help improve the lives of low-income people in the South and North Ends of the city, as well as downtown. The Working Communities Challenge Grant initiative is sponsored by the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston. In December, Garvan Donegan, director of planning, innovation and economic development for the Central Maine Growth Council, sent a letter of interest on behalf of the city saying it wanted to be included in the process. The city was notified it had been invited to be included and now is applying for a design grant.
